Beliefs
We believe and proclaim unashamedly the Gospel, the Good News revealed by God in His Word about His Son, Jesus Christ, as “the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes” (Romans 1:10). Central to our faith are the following truths.
God - There is one and only one living and true God.
· We believe in the Bible truth known as the doctrine of the Holy Trinity: God exists from eternity to eternity as one God in three Persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
· God is the greatest and best of all beings. He is holy, pure, righteous, and just. His love and His power are beyond measure.
· God is the Creator, Owner, Ruler, and Purpose of all things. He is our reason for living and our supreme joy. To whom we owe complete obedience, love, and awe.
Jesus - Jesus of Nazareth is the Christ, that is, the Messiah, the Son of God, and our only Savior.
· Jesus is the eternal Son of God, one with the Father. In the womb of the virgin Mary He became man to save us. He is fully God and fully man.
· Jesus lived a life without sin and died for our sins on the cross. There is no way for people to be saved except through Jesus’ death.
· Jesus rose bodily from His grave on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will come again in power and glory.
The Bible – The Holy Bible, consisting of 39 books of the Old Testament and 27 of the New Testament, is God’s Word.
· The Bible was inspired by the Holy Spirit. It is therefore inerrant (without error) and infallible.
· We believe in the sufficiency of the Scriptures. This means that the Bible alone (sola Scriptura) is our authority, and that it is all we need for our salvation, our doctrine, the conduct of our lives as Christians and for the worship and work of the church.
Salvation - All humans are sinners in need of God’s salvation. In other words, we need God to rescue us. What the Bible teaches about salvation has been expressed in four truths that all contain the word “alone” (Latin, sola) – known, along with the principle of sola Scriptura, as “the five solas of the Reformation”.
· We are saved only through grace (sola gratia)- God’s undeserved, free mercy. Because we are sinners, we can never deserve salvation.
· Salvation is received through faith alone (sola fide). We need not – and we cannot – earn forgiveness, pay God back, or improve to the point where we are acceptable. We can only put our trust in Christ and what He has done on our behalf, when He died in the place of sinners.
· Saving faith is faith Jesus Christ alone (solus Christus). “Faith in God” that does not include faith in Jesus is not real saving faith. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to Father except through me.” This is because Jesus made the only acceptable sacrifice to God for our sins. For this reason only those who are born again by God’s Spirit and receive Jesus as Savior and Lord will be saved. Therefore the Good News of Jesus must be proclaimed to all people.
· God alone gets the glory and the credit for our salvation (soli Deo Gloria). We who have been saved through Jesus have nothing to brag about and no right to feel superior over other people. We are sinners who have been saved by a terrible price paid for our terrible sins. But we have very, very much to rejoice over, to celebrate, and to share with the world – that God who is holy is so awesomely merciful, and that anyone who will believe in his or her heart that Jesus is Lord, and that God raised Him from the dead, will be saved. (Romans 10:9)
